Component sourcing

Procurement against your bill of materials: every line checked for availability and lead time before the quote, bought through channels appropriate to the project, and kitted for the build. When a part can't be had, you get options with the differences spelled out, and nothing is substituted without your approval.

At a glance
Part of
Turnkey and mixed assembly orders; the prototype stage of reverse engineering.
Start with
A BOM with manufacturer part numbers where you have them. Mark the parts you'll supply yourself and any that must not change.
You receive
An availability report before quotation, a sourced kit for the build, and a record of every approved substitution.
What it covers

Shortages shape the plan instead of interrupting it

Availability and lead time

Checked for every line before the quotation, so a twenty-week part shows up in the schedule you approve rather than in an apology later.

Substitution proposals

An alternate is proposed only when needed, with what differs — package, rating, tolerance, footprint, manufacturer — stated plainly. Your approval is required before it's bought.

Provenance

Parts are bought through channels appropriate to the project. If a hard-to-find part is only available on the open market, that's disclosed with the risk, and you decide.

Consigned and mixed kits

Parts you supply are received and checked against the BOM. Shortages, mismatches, and attrition needs are reported before the build starts, not after it stops.

A good BOM

What makes sourcing fast

  • Manufacturer part numbers, not only distributor numbers or values.
  • Reference designators and quantities per board that match the pick-and-place file.
  • A column for approved alternates, and a mark on parts that must never be substituted.
  • Parts you will consign, identified up front.

Attach the BOM with the rest of your files.

Sourcing is quoted as part of an assembly order. On the quote form, choose how you want parts supplied — turnkey, consigned, or mixed — and the availability check happens during file review.
